Access to Treatment: Clubfoot

Over 200,000 children are born with clubfoot each year. In affluent countries, treatment is standard, but in developing parts of the world, 85% of cases are left untreated due to limited access to care.

The result, a lifetime of pain, marginalization, limited mobility, and likely under- or unemployment.

Why Clubfoot

Globally, clubfoot is one of the most prevalent birth defects, with 200,000 children born with the condition each year. Equitable access to care is a global problem with approximately 85% of cases left untreated in developing countries, despite existing low cost, highly effective treatment options.

The barrier, access to care is limited by lack of trained professionals, treatment facilities, and healthcare system limitations.

The Barzilai Foundation is working to expand access to care through specialised partnerships, by building capabilities and treatment capacity through training professionals, launching new clinics and create access to treatment for hundreds of patients over the next decade.
